    Eligibility requirements: The TARA Contest is open to unpublished and published authors of novel-length fiction. However, the entry must be the author’s original work, unpublished and not contracted as of the time of the contest deadline. No entry can have been previously published in any format (on author’s website visible to the public, self-published, ebook, mass market, etc.).

    **The Stiletto Contest for Unpublished Contemporary Romantic Fiction

    Sponsor: Contemporary Romance Writers Chapter
    Fee: $20 for members; $30 for non-members
    Deadline: May 31,2014
    Entry: electronic entries only; first 20 pages plus a maximum two-page synopsis. Synopsis is unjudged.
    Eligibility: Open to all writers as long as they haven't published in the past five years in the category in which they enter. All novel-length manuscripts (finished length for category romance, 40,000–80,000 words, for all other categories, 60,000–100,000 words) are eligible as long as they have never been published in any form and are uncontracted as of the entry date to the contest. All entrants are eligible to enter in multiple categories, though a separate entry fee will be required for each such entry. No manuscript can be entered in more than one category. Membership in RWA or in the RWA-CR Chapter is not required to enter the contest.

    June Contests

    *The Aspen Gold 2014

    Eligibility: Romance Genre Book/Novella/short story with a 2013 publication date.
    Entry: 3 print copies or electronic version of book. Finalists will be asked for 2 additional copies for the final-round judges.
    Categories: All subcategories of romance fiction accepted.
    Judges: First round – Romance Readers, Final round – Librarians.
    Prize: The first place winner in each category will receive the Aspen Gold Plaque. All other finalists will receive certificates. Results will be publicized on website, loops and in the RWR.

    *I Heart Indie Contest

    Sponsor: Las Vegas Romance Writers
    Fee: $15.00
    Deadline: June 1, 2014.
    Eligibility: The contest judges the covers and back cover copies of books and novellas that were independently published (either electronically or in print) in the United States for the first time between Jan. 1, 2013 and May 30, 2014.
    Entry: Entry form, the book’s cover, the text of the back cover copy, and the entrance fee of $15.00. Electronic entries only.
    Categories: Contemporary, Historical, Erotic, Inspirational, Paranormal, Suspense, Young Adult, New Adult, Novella.
    Judges: All the entries will be judged by book club members who are avid readers. Every effort will be made to use book clubs that are genre-specific.
    Final Judges: The finalists will be judged by agents experienced in working with indie authors.
    Prize: The winners will be announced in the RWR and the covers and back cover copy will be published on LVRW’s website. Winners will also receive an electronic badge that can be placed on book covers, websites, or anywhere the winner deems appropriate, that announces the first place win.

    **The 22nd Annual Lone Star Writing Competition

    Eligibility: Open to RWA members only. Published Authors: the writer is contracted or published, but the entry itself must not be contracted or published. Self-published authors welcome. Unpublished Authors: the writer has not accepted a publishing offer for, or self-published, a work of original fictional narrative prose of 20,000 words or more (by the contest entry deadline).
    Entry: First 25 pages (maximum 6250 words) of an unpublished work.
