    Local RWA chapters offer a number of conferences, contests, and workshops. Listed below are the chapter contests and conferences scheduled for the coming months.

    **FRW Golden Palm Contest

    Sponsor: Florida Romance Writers

    Eligibility: The author must enter new, original work that has not been published by a traditional publisher, self-published, or contracted to be published.

    The Golden Pen

    Sponsor: The Golden Network
    Fees:$35 per entry received on or before July 15; $40 per entry received on or before August 15; $5 judging discount.
    Deadline: Opens June 1. Early-bird deadline July 15. All others deadline August 15.
    Eligibility requirements: The Golden Pen Contest is open to writers who have not accepted a publishing offer for a work of original fictional narrative prose of 20,000 words or more by August 15, 2014. Entrant must retain all rights to the entry and not have granted any of them to a publisher or any other party prior to or by August 15, 2014. Previously entered manuscripts may be entered again, but no previously winning manuscript can be entered, even if revised. Entrants must be 18 years of age by August 15, 2014. Entrants may not enter a category in which they are judging.
    Entry: All-electronic. Entry shall include a synopsis (not to exceed ten pages) plus the first consecutive pages of the manuscript in one document, together totaling not more than 55 pages. Any entries with synopses longer than ten pages or a total entry longer than 55 pages will be disqualified.
    Categories: Contemporary Series, Contemporary Single Title, Historical, Inspirational, Paranormal, Romantic Suspense, Young Adult.
    Judges: In the preliminary round, each entry will be judged by three judges, including at least one Golden Heart finalist and one published author (Golden Heart finalist may also be the published author).

    **Heart to Heart Contest

    Fee: SFA-RWA Members $15 / Non-members $20
    Deadline: August 31, 2014
    Eligibility: Open to all writers unpublished by an RWA-approved publisher as of the entry deadline. Prospective entrants may be published with a non RWA-recognized publisher; however, they may not enter books/manuscripts that have been professionally edited or have ISBN numbers.
    Entry: All electronic; Enter the magical scene in which your hero and heroine meet for the first time. Maximum 15 pages (with an optional one-page setup, unjudged). Each entry may only be entered in one category. Submit as many different entries as you wish.

    Judges: Every entrant receives one PRO or PAN judge.

    **The Stiletto Contest for Unpublished Contemporary Romantic Fiction

    Sponsor: Contemporary Romance Writers Chapter
    Fee: $20 for members; $30 for non-members
    Deadline: September 5, 2014 (NEW DATE)
    Entry: electronic entries only; first 20 pages plus a maximum two-page synopsis. Synopsis is unjudged.
    Eligibility: Open to all writers as long as they haven't published in the past five years in the category in which they enter. All novel-length manuscripts (finished length for category romance, 40,000–80,000 words, for all other categories, 60,000–100,000 words) are eligible as long as they have never been published in any form and are uncontracted as of the entry date to the contest. All entrants are eligible to enter in multiple categories, though a separate entry fee will be required for each such entry. No manuscript can be entered in more than one category. Membership in RWA or in the RWA-CR Chapter is not required to enter the contest.
