Local RWA chapters offer a number of conferences, contests, and workshops. Listed below are the chapter contests and conferences scheduled for the coming months.

    **Hot Prospects Contest

    *Midnight Sun Cover Contest

    Sponsor: Alaska Romance Writers (AKRWA)
    Fee: $15.00
    Deadline: Entries accepted between August 1, 2018 and September 1, 2018.
    Eligibility: Any romance novel, novella, or short story published either electronically or in print in the United States for the first time prior to August 30, 2018.
    Entry: Completed Entry form, the book’s cover in digital format (JPEG only, see website for details), and the entrance fee.
    Judges: All entries will be placed on prominent display in printed format at the Alaska Writer’s Guild (AWG) 2018 conference, co-sponsored by AKRWA. Conference attendees and presenters (approximately 150) will select first-round entries via ballot box.
    Final Judging: Trained judges will select the top winner from the top ten entries selected at the conference. Final judging will occur at the annual AKRWA Writing Retreat in early October, with the winner announced in late October. Honorable Mentions: This contest seeks a single, most compelling cover; however, Honorable Mentions will be awarded, including the prestigious librarian’s choice award.
    Prizes: Publication on the AKRWA website, electronic badge that can be placed on book covers, websites, or anywhere the winner deems appropriate, and a $25 Visa cash card.

    *Southern Magic Award of Excellence Contest

    Fee: $25 for each book. Payment will be made on the RWA website via PayPal, which also allows for credit card payment or by check.
    Deadline: September 1, 2018
    Eligibility: All authors of novel-length or novella-length romance fiction (traditionally and self-published).
    Entry: Books must have an original publication date and copyright of 2017. Electronic books may be entered when not available in print. Must provide a copyright page produced by the publisher. Limit of two books per author and author must provide four copies of the entered book, which will not be returned.

    Deadline: The contest opens for entries on August 1, 2018. Entry and payment must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. CDT, September 8, 2018
    Eligibility: All authors of the entry are unpublished and not contracted in novel-length fiction (over 40,000 words) within the last 3 years from July 30, 2018. Self-published authors will be considered eligible to enter the Gateway Contest with any unpublished work. MORWA will consider any work available for purchase online or in print at any time to be published and ineligible.
    Entry: Entries to the Gateway are up to the first 7000 words of the manuscript. No synopsis is required.
