RWA Alert: Harlequin Digital Royalty Changes

RWA Alert

Harlequin Digital Royalty Changes

Several members of RWA have expressed concern regarding a recent letter from Harlequin pertaining to digital royalty rate changes. We are in the process of consulting with counsel and will seek clarification, as needed, from Harlequin.

As always, RWA recommends that members seek independent advice where necessary and exercise due diligence in reviewing contracts.

Net Royalities

June 28, 2011 12:11 PM by Beth Sorensen

I understand that some of these contract changes include net as opposed to gross sales royalities. If RWA approves of these contracts, I wonder if it will be changing its policy on net royalities across the board. I was very disappointed last year when I was prohibited from entering RWA's national contest with my first novel as it was printed through an independent publisher who uses net sales as opposed to gross sales. I hope the RWA does not start a policy of picking and choosing which net sales royalities are acceptable.
