Amazon to Acquire Goodreads announced March 28 that it will acquire Goodreads, the leading website for readers and book recommendations whose mission is "to help people find and share books they love." Goodreads boasts 16 million members, with 525 million books and 23 million reviews on their site.

According to Amazon Vice President, Kindle Content Russ Grandinetti, "Both Amazon and Goodreads have helped thousands of authors reach a wider audience and make a better living at their craft. Together we intend to build many new ways to delight readers and authors alike.”

Otis Chandler, Goodreads CEO and co-founder, said, "I’m incredibly excited about the opportunity to partner with Amazon and Kindle. We’re now going to be able to move faster in bringing the Goodreads experience to millions of readers around the world. We’re looking forward to inspiring greater literary discussion and helping more readers find great books, whether they read in print or digitally.”

After the acquisition, Goodreads will have the reach and resources of Amazon behind them, though Goodreads will remain an independent entity under the Goodreads brand. press release
