Participant Biographies:

  • Nalini Akolekar joined Spencerhill Associates after a lengthy editorial career and several years in advertising sales.  Agenting has provided the perfect opportunity to combine her editorial instincts with her sales, marketing, and business experience. Nalini currently represents several bestselling authors and has placed books with a wide range of publishers, from the Big Six to Amazon, Harlequin, indies, and e-first. Nalini specializes in romance and women’s fiction in the adult market, but she also loves a good thriller.
  • From the moment Michelle Grajkowski first opened the doors to the 3 Seas Literary Agency in August of 2000, she has been living her dream. (What could be better than surrounding yourself with amazing authors and their exciting and imaginative books?) Since then, she’s successfully sold more than 475 projects into all the major publishing houses. Her clients include New York Times Bestselling Authors Katie MacAlister, Cathy McDavid, Kerrelyn Sparks and C.L. Wilson. Michelle primarily represents romance, women’s fiction, young adult and middle grade fiction. She is currently looking for fantastic writers with a voice of their own.
  • Courtney Miller-Callihan began her career in publishing at Random House, where she spent a number of years in subsidiary rights sales and in contracts before joining Sanford J. Greenburger Associates in 2005. A member of the Romance Writers of America, she works closely with authors to help them reach their full creative and commercial potential. Courtney is currently seeking women’s fiction, romance, and historical novels, as well as nonfiction projects on unusual topics, humor, pop culture, and lifestyle books. She represents a limited number of children’s book authors, and is especially drawn to middle-grade and YA fiction with voices that jump off the page.
  • Margie Lawson—psychotherapist, writer, and international presenter—has developed psychologically-based editing systems and deep editing techniques. In her courses, writers ranging from novices to multi-award winning authors learn how to add psychological power to create page turners. Margie has also taught psychology and communication courses at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. Her resume includes adjunct professor, clinical trainer, facilitator of trauma response sessions, and director of a counseling center. Writers who have studied her material credit her innovative editing approaches with taking their writing several levels higher—to publication, awards, and bestseller lists.
