Let me start with a quick introduction — I’m HelenKay Dimon, the incoming President of RWA. Currently, I am President-Elect and when I begin the presidency in November it will be my sixth year on the Board of Directors, after years of board service on the local chapter level.
As part of my initial welcome, I wanted to discuss an issue that is central to RWA – you. The national Board constantly reviews and analyzes RWA programs to judge, among many things, their return on investment (ROI) for members. We want every member to feel as if their membership has value. With the changes in our industry, the pressure on resources, the difficulty of discoverability and changes within RWA, this task will be more important than ever.
As we begin the final Golden Heart Contest in fall 2018, we are looking for new and innovative ways to assist our unpublished members on their road to publication. Further, we will be continuing the discussion about what RWA can offer all of our members in this changing and challenging publishing environment. This means assessing and discussing our programming and looking at how it impacts all of our members – unpublished, traditionally published, self-published, hybrid published, and both those who have been out of publishing for some time and those who are moving in and out of all of these groups.
The Board has ideas, and potential new and revised programs are being reviewed to test their feasibility. We are also excited to hear from incoming Board members about their thoughts on where RWA can go and how we get there. We know we have more work to do and we’re going to do it. During the transition from one Board to another you can still reach me by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. I look forward to working together to make RWA even stronger in the future.
