Bio:

Award-winning, national best-selling author Kate Freiman is the only remaining charter member of Toronto Romance Writers. Kate served five terms as TRW president and/or co-president, founded and was the early coordinator of the chapter contest recently renamed The Catherine (in honor of a deceased chapter member), and established the delicious tradition of awarding chocolates for good and not-so-good news during accolades.Kate is the incoming Vice-President of Programming for TRW for 2015.

Kate earned a B.A. and an M.A. in English lit and wrote her thesis on British detective novels of the Golden Age (1920-1939); she’s a self-proclaimed expert as figuring out “who dunnit.” She is an RWA Golden Heart, FCRW Beacon, HoDRW Aspen Gold and NJRW Golden Leaf winner and an RWA RITA finalist whose stories, ranging from romantic comedies to heart-tugging romances to romantic fantasies, published by Harlequin/Silhouette and Jove, have been national best-sellers. Kate teaches online and in-person workshops on various writing and storytelling topics and acts as mentor of the TRW’s critique loop.

In her private life, Kate tends her garden, fixes things that break and finds things that get lost, reads voraciously, and acts as personal assistant to two cats, two dogs and a horse. Her husband of 40 years, Mark, is a lawyer, and their son, Ben, owns Bakka-Phoenix Books (84 Harbord Street, Toronto), the oldest science fiction and fantasy bookstore in the known universe.
