Announcing the RWA2017 Schedule

RWA2017 logoThe RWA Conference is the place where career-focused romance writers gather to make lasting connections and grow their careers—and so much more. When 2,000 romance writers and industry professionals assemble in one place, the sense of community is undeniable.

Based on your input, some changes are in store for the 2017 RWA Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida (July 26–29). We’re excited to present this reworked schedule that maximizes your return on investment. More details will be forthcoming.

Registration for RWA2017 opens online on February 7, 2017.

Schedule Highlights

Wednesday afternoon

Three different tracks—Indie, Master Classes, and Emerging Author—will provide authors at every stage a chance to attend in-depth workshops specific to taking your career to the next level.

  • PRO Retreat
  • Workshops throughout the day
  • Golden Heart Awards Luncheon with Emcee Sherrilyn Kenyon
  • RITA Awards with Emcee Ally Carter (7:00–9:00 p.m. ET)

  • Workshops throughout the day
  • RWA Service Awards and Keynote Luncheon with Susan Wiggs
  • Annual General Meeting

  • Workshops throughout the day
  • Chapter Leadership Breakfast and Town Hall
  • Librarians Day with Luncheon Speaker Brenda Jackson (registration required)
  • Blogger Events
  • "Readers for Life" Literacy Autographing (3:00–5:00 p.m. ET)

Why are you separating the Golden Heart and RITA ceremonies?

We want to give more attention to finalists and winners and provide them with more professional opportunities throughout the conference. Rather than merge both ceremonies, the Board felt this was a way to focus on the accomplishments of unpublished and published finalists. Details will be forthcoming.

What’s with Wednesday?

Rather than open with the Literacy Autographing, when many readers aren’t able to come, we created tracks for authors at every stage of their careers.

What is the Indie Track (Wednesday)?

This is intended for experienced independent and hybrid authors, as well as traditionally published authors interested in these topics. We’ll announce which industry professionals will be attending as we nail down the details.

What is the Master Class Track (Wednesday)?

Intensive classes on high-level craft and industry topics for experienced authors looking to take a deeper look at their work and careers.

What is the Emerging Author Track (Wednesday)?

Intensive workshops for emerging writers from some of RWA’s most successful authors who will cover the basics of writing.

What if I can’t make it to the conference until Thursday?

The Workshop Committee is putting together a vibrant, varied array of workshops for writers at all stages of their careers. Stay tuned for the full line-up.

Why is the Literacy Autographing on Saturday afternoon?

More readers are available to come on a Saturday afternoon. The conference will end where every author’s career starts—with readers.
