Local RWA chapters offer a number of conferences, contests, and workshops. Listed below are the chapter contests and conferences scheduled for the coming months.

    March Contests

    **2017 Royal Ascot Competition

    Sponsor: The Beau Monde Chapter Romance Writers

    Entry: All electronic. Enter the first 7,000 words (max) of your unpublished/uncontracted Regency romance, and indicate if you want to submit the entry to the Royal Ascot Readers’ Choice Category Awards contest.
    Judges: Every Royal Ascot entry will be judged by three trained judges, at least one of whom is a PAN member.

    **2017 Fool for Love

    Eligibility: All categories, except the Published Author category, are open to entrants who have not published and are not contracted in any novel-length fiction. All work must be the author’s original work that has never been published in any form ever, and has not been contracted for publication prior to the entry deadline of April 1, 2017. It is not a requirement to have a finished novel-length manuscript in order to enter this contest.
    Entry: The beginning of the manuscript up to 7500 word maximum entry (approximately 30 pages) submitted electronically. No synopsis. Finalists ​will have an opportunity to read first-round feedback and revise entry for final round.

    Sponsor: Young Adult Romance Writers of America
    Fee: $15 members/$25 non-members. Payment via PayPal only (available starting March 1st, when the contest opens)
    Deadline: April 1, 2017 at 11:59pm (ET)
    Eligibility: All authors, regardless of publishing status, are welcome to enter this contest. All authors must be at least 18 years of age. Submitted manuscripts must be new, original YA or NA fiction that has not been published, self-published, or contracted to be published. Manuscripts must have a word count of at least 40,000 words.
    Entry: First 25 pages of manuscript.

    **The Golden Rose Contest

    Eligibility: Any non-contracted author of romantic fiction (RWA members only) unpublished in book-length (50,000 words or more) in the last three years and any member of RWA who is not eligible to join RWA-PAN.
    Entry: All electronic. Must be the first 10,000 words of a full-length novel with a projected length of 50,000 words or more. No novellas or short stories. All heat levels and LGBTQ leads are accepted across all categories. RCRW embraces diversity across all categories.

    **Ignite the Flame Contest (ITF)

    Eligibility: Open to published and unpublished authors. Published authors may enter any category in which they're not published, or in which they've not been contracted for publication within the past five years.
    Entry: On-line entries only. Submit up to15 pages (15-page maximum), in RTF format only, double-spaced, with manuscript title, genre and page number in the upper left-hand header. If your Igniting the Flame scene is not in the first chapter of your manuscript, please include a set-up for the judge. Set-up and entry are to be submitted as one file. The set-up will not be critiqued or affect your submission score. Our contest is named Ignite the Flame for a reason. We want to lose ourselves in the one scene of your unpublished manuscript when your hero and heroine first meet (or reunite after a period of time) and experience that first spark of attraction, that irresistible heat drawing them together.

    Fee: $30 for HODRW members, $35 for all other RWA members, and $40 for all non-RWA members
    Opens: April 1, 2017 Early Bird Discount of $5 before May 1, 2017. Deadline: May 31, 2017. See website for new rules.
    Eligibility: All writers unpublished in book-length fiction within 3 years prior to entry deadline, that do not have a contract prior to the final entry date.
    Entry: First pages (up to 25) of your manuscript plus up to 5 pages of your synopsis, which may be commented on but not judged. This can be a combination of Prologue plus Chapter One, but 30 pages maximum, including the synopsis. End on a hook.
    Categories: Most subcategories of romance fiction accepted. See website for details.
    Judges: First round, combination of 3 published and unpublished. Second round, 2 published. Comments will be returned from the first two rounds of judges as each round ends.
