Local RWA chapters offer a number of conferences, contests, and workshops. Listed below are the chapter contests and conferences scheduled for the coming months.

    Eligibility: Entrants must be unpublished in book-length fiction (minimum 40,000 words) in the last five years. For the purpose of this contest, unpublished means the author or authors have not accepted a publishing offer for, or self-published, a work of original fictional narrative prose of 20,000 words or more.

    **2015 Great Beginnings Contest

    Eligibility: Contest is open to published and unpublished authors. Published authors may submit only unpublished, uncontracted manuscripts that will remain unpublished until the contest has concluded.
    Entry: All electronic. Enter the opening five (5) pages of your romance novel (projected length of at least 50,000 words). Submit as many different entries as you wish.
    Categories: Contemporary, Romantic Suspense, Historical, Paranormal.
    Judges: Every entry will be judged 3 times by trained judges and at least once by a PAN member.

    2016 PITCH Contest

    Sponsor: Music City Romance Writers
    Fee: $15.00
    Submissions Open: March 1, 2016. Deadline: April 9, 2016
    Eligibility: Published and non-published authors. Pitches must be for books not under contract as of March 1st 2016.
    Entry: Get feedback on the pitch you’ll use to grab an agent or the blurb copy that will sell that book to readers! Submit a maximum of 200 words and have a chance to go in front of at least five industry professionals.
    Judges: PAN members, three scoresheets per entry.
    Final Judges: Acquiring agents (see website for details). All judges receive the top 10% of entries.
    Top Prize: Copy of “QUERY: Everything You Need to Get Started, Get Noticed, and Get Signed,” along with a 25-page developmental edit, a 30-minute Skype chat or phone call with an acquiring agent, and a bonus critique of your query by a second acquiring agent!
