Local RWA chapters offer a number of conferences, contests, and workshops. Listed below are the chapter contests and conferences scheduled for the coming months.

    *I Heart Indie Contest

    Sponsor: Las Vegas Romance Writers
    Fee: $15.00
    Deadline: June 1, 2018.
    Eligibility: The contest judges the covers and back cover copies of books and novellas that were independently published (either electronically or in print) in the United States for the first time prior to May 31, 2018.
    Entry: Entry form, the book’s cover, the text of the back cover copy, and the entrance fee of $15.00. Electronic entries only.
    Categories: Contemporary, Historical, Erotic, LGBTQ, Inspirational, Paranormal, Suspense, Young Adult, New Adult, Novella, Sci-Fi Fantasy and Western (Contemporary or Historical).
    Judges: All the entries will be judged by book club members who are avid readers. Every effort will be made to use book clubs that are genre-specific.
    Final Judges: The finalists will be judged by agents experienced in working with indie authors. Past agent judges have expressed interest in representing one or more of our finalists.
    Best of the Best: The Best of the Best will be selected by our first-round book club judges from the eleven category winners.
    Prize: The winners will be announced at the Las Vegas Valley Book Festival and featured an advertisement on RT Book Review. In addition, there is a cash prize of $125 for the category winner selected as the Best of the Best. The finalists will be listed on the LVRW website and the winners’ covers and back cover copy will be published on LVRW’s website once they are announced. Winners and finalists will also receive an electronic badge that can be placed on book covers, websites, or anywhere the winner deems appropriate, that announces the first-place win.

    **Put Your Heart in a Book

    Sponsor: New Jersey Romance Writers
    Fee: $25 NJRW Members, $35 all other RWA Members
    Deadline: June 1, 2018.
    Eligibility: Entrant must be a member of RWA in good standing, unpublished, and not contracted in book-length romantic fiction at the contest deadline by any publisher and in any format within the last five years.
    Entry: Entries will be submitted by electronic (email) submissions and will consist of entry form, a synopsis (2–5 pages), and first chapter only, not to exceed 30 pages combined. A prologue may be included as part of the first chapter, if within page total guidelines.
    Categories: Contemporary Series, Single-Title Contemporary, Historical, Paranormal, Romantic Suspense, Young Adult.
    Judges: published authors.
    Final Judges: Literary agent, publisher, published author for each category.
    Top Prize: $50 + plaque.

    **The 26th Annual Lone Star Writing Competition

    Eligibility: Open to all writers, published and unpublished, in any category. However, the entry must never have been published in any format (digital or print), and may not be under contract until the announcement of the winning entries in October. Open to RWA and non-RWA members.

    **Pages from the Heart Contest

    Fee: $26 RWA members, $21 FTH members, $16 each subsequent entry.
    Deadline: June 30, 2018 11:59 PM PDT.
    Eligibility: RWA members only. Published Author—the writer is contracted or published, but the entry itself must not be contracted or published as of June 30, 2017. Self-published authors are welcome. The manuscript must be your original work. Unpublished Author—the writer has not accepted a publishing offer for, or self-published, a work of original fictional narrative prose of 20,000 words or more (by June 30, 2017). The manuscript must be your original work. Previous winners of the Pages from the Heart contest may not re-enter the same manuscript during the 2017 contest. All other finalists may enter the same manuscript as they have in previous years.
    Entry: The first six thousand (6,000) words of an unpublished work.
    Categories: All categories for both published and unpublished—Contemporary Short, Contemporary Long, Historical, Romantic Suspense/Mystery, Paranormal/Fantasy/Futuristic/Time Travel, and Young Adult.
    Judges: Three first-round judges per entry. The lowest score will be dropped, but will be used in case of a tie.
    Final Judges: Finalists from each category will be judged by one editor and one agent.

    *The Carla - Crown Jewel of Books Contest

    Deadline: Registration must be completed and contest fee paid by 11:59 p.m. CDT July 1, 2018. Books must be received by July 15, 2018.
    Eligibility: Open to any traditional or self-published author with an original copyright date of 2017. All books must be perfect bound and be at least 40,000 words in length. Multiple entries are allowed in the same or different categories (separate fees apply). However, an entry may not be entered in more than one category. Contest will have no more than five finalists from all categories. Finalists will be notified by the last week of September. The winner will be announced on or about November 5, 2018.
    Categories: Category Romance (includes all novels intended for series lines), Contemporary Single Title, Historical Romance, Romantic Suspense, Paranormal Romance, Erotic Romance, Young Adult Romance/New Adult Romance, Inspirational Romance.
